Not far away from Lake Garda, in Spiazzi, the Sanctuary of Madonna della Corona deserves a visit, set in a rocky wall to 773 meters of altitude. The legend tells that in a night of year 1522 two shepherds perceived an intense light shine among the steep slopes of the mountain. They hastened to see and they found the wooden image of a Pity surrounded of supernatural light. Later would be known that really in that days the Turks had conquered to the Venetians the Rhodos island where Our Lady of Sorrows was and, in the moment in which they were about to offend her, she had disappeared for going into exile among the ravines of the Monte Baldo. The Sanctuary rises on a precipice and is reachable in two ways. From Spiazzi with a brief walk or by small buses. On the other side, from the Vallagarina valley, the more devotees and athletic ones can climp up the staircase “Scala Santa” which begins from the bottom city of Brentino.
